Jade and Alex met me late on a Friday afternoon. We aimed to capture the last light of the day, but there was much less light than we bargained for.

The skies became dark and stormy, which created a moody atmosphere for these shots.

Luckily the water wasn’t to cold for poor Jade, but she managed to look gorgeous even when her dress was water logged.

Jade tells me that she had to remove a few buckets of sand from her dress when she got it home, but it’s now all clean and good as new.

TTD at the The Atherton Tablelands QLD

We have some of the most amazing natural scenery up here, so shooting this “Trash the Dress” session at a spectacular waterfall on The Atherton Tablelands was a great day out, combing two of my life passions: photography and the great outdoors! It was heaps of fun too!

Photographing Lidia and Doug’s wedding in May last year was such a pleasure that they were my first choice candidates for a “trash the dress” photo session! I was pretty sure that Lidia would be up for anything! And she was! Her and Doug were great! We had a bit of a hike to get to the location and the water was quite chilly, but they were not deterred!

TTD regulars get awards at QAPPA April 15, 2008

Ben Rugers from Inifinity Studios and Deb Amsler and Michaela Elphick from Bliss Photography are both contributers to this site. So we were pretty excited when both won 2 silvers each at the recent QAPPA.

With so many talented photographers in QLD the 2008 EPSON AIPP Queensland Professional Photography Awards was always going to be hotly contested; so getting 2 silvers is fantastic.

Congrats!

And here we have 2 images by Infinity Studios that received the silver awards.

Trash the dress – Brighton Beach

After I posted some images of my first Trash the Dress photo shoot on a popular wedding forum I was contacted by quite a few brides who wanted to do a shoot. These photos of Teresa and Shane were shoot at Brighton beach in Adelaide shortly after they returned from their honeymoon. After carrying all my lighting equipment to th beach I realized that it was high tide and that I wouldn’t be able to use any of it. The beach had disappeared and the water was lapping at the rocks. I love it when this sort of thing happens because you really have to think on your feet and the images we managed to capture I probably wouldn’t have thought of doing if it had been low tide. despite both Teresa and I struggling to keep our balance on the slippery rocks (I almost took my camera for a swim) we all had a great time and we all love these photos. I hope you all enjoy them too.

I took my models out for some fun to Shorncliffe Pier – well fun for me, maybe not so much for them!! It was a miserable day with gale force winds…but the girls were so very uber cool, and willing to do pretty much anything I asked of them!!!!

I get so much joy out of Trash the Dress Sessions…and they don’t always have to be just wedding dresses either!

TTD in the playground and on the beach April 10, 2008

Sasha & Matt came to me after getting married in January. They were really keen on having some images taken on some children’s playground equipment. So off we headed to a huge children’s park to wait our turn for a go on the different equipment. We just happened to pick one of the busiest days of the year and there were kids everywhere all of them just loving the fact that a Princess Bride and her Prince were prancing around playing too. After some fun at the park we headed to the water, stopping along the way for some fun amongst the sand dunes and dead trees (Sounds lovely doesn’t it!). The tide was coming in so we nearly lost our camera bag a couple of times, but I guess that the price you pay for awesome photos!

It took me awhile to find the right person for my first dress trashing session. Alot of people thought I was insane and alot of people did not want to do anything to their dress. Enter Leigh – married a few years ago, her dress has just been sitting there…waiting…

From our first email exchanges back and forth I knew that this girl would be up for anything. So we set up a day, booked the wonderful Annie to do make up and off we went. Melways in hand and a rough idea of what we wanted we set forth on our adventure. We started off in the Mount Dandenong area and found a great little creek (thank goodness for recent rains!) of course while we were there in the freezing stream a little old man was filling up water bottles in the creek….he seemed a bit bemused and offered suggestions before going on his way. Then we headed down to black rock beach where at one stage we had a fair few people on the looking down at us from the lookout….Leigh, being the obliging girl that she is, gave them a little wave before hiking up a saturated wedding dress and scaling a cliff face! I had a blast and the email I received from Leigh this morning makes me think she did too!

“I just wanted to thank you for your time and efforts yesterday. I not only enjoyed the experience immensely, but spending the day with you was like spending the day with a good friend. Your fun attitude and humorous personality really helped make the day into a adventure, and I doubt anyone else could have done a better job. Not only were you fun to work with, but your professionalism as a photographer and someone whom is dedicated to her art, shone through.”
